Citrus pectin is a fiber in fruits. Many pharmaceuticals used it for medicinal purposes. Citrus pectin plays an important role in our body base on proved research. One of them is WebMD. The research is conducted that “Pectin is used for high cholesterol and triglycerides”. Though they focus on lipid profiling, the research found out that pectin also prevents colon cancer and prostate cancer. Semanticscholars research found out that “Citrus pectin reduces cholesterol 30% aortal plaque 85% and narrowing of coronary arteries by 88% in animal feeding studies.”

Europepmc’s research said that “citrus pectin in the stomach and small intestine was studied by in vivo digestion in ileostomy patients. The research investigated that pectin has an effect on ileostomy (opening in the abdominal wall during surgery). Its effects are loss of fat, nitrogen, starch, sodium, and potassium. In fact, the absorption of phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, zinc, and iron is the effect of pectin.”

Europepmc studied six ileostomy patients for 10 days. Patients are in a constant low-fiber diet. Patients are supplemented 15-gram citrus pectin/day on days 5, 6 and 7. The study revealed that during the pectin period, there was a significant increase in the amount of nitrogen. Aside from that, it increases fat, ash, sodium and potassium found in ileostomy contents. The amount of starch unchanged during the test.  The research concluded there is limited digestion of citrus pectin in the stomach and the small intestine.
